Section 8 Housing
A federal rental assistance program that pays part of the rent for qualified low-income tenants.
Definition
Section 8 (the Housing Choice Voucher Program) is a federal program administered locally that provides rental subsidies to qualifying low-income tenants. Landlords who accept Section 8 receive monthly rent payments directly from the housing authority, with the tenant paying the balance. Section 8 is popular with Baltimore investors because of reliable payment, above-market rents in some ZIPs, and strong tenant demand in Dundalk, Essex, Rosedale, and parts of Baltimore City.
